I completely agree! I was at ground zero yesterday and was appalled...
The line was around the block where they barked orders at us and herded us like cattle through a donation facility and gift shop of course. Then walked three more blocks, met by another 1 hr long line then met by airport security-like system of checking bags, then by another 25 minute line!
I went to pay my respects but by the time we got there I was so disoriented I felt almost like a criminal, not someone who was paying my respects. Why is this project not finished and who is this money really going to?
Glad to see someone is speaking up!

Hi Mike,
It's taken me a while to write, but I wanted to say that your column "Stigmatize pregnant teens? That's the point" was phenomenal. Thank you for finally saying what a lot of people are thinking- that teens have a CHOICE whether or not they want to become parents and some people need to be told that having a child is a MAJOR responsibility, both financially and emotionally. And that the Mayor was right to run these ads. Keep up the good work Mike!

Absolutely right. That day was a day that will live in the memories of all who were alive at the time, especially New Yorkers, and the people in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. The victims, and their memorial, shouldn't be trivialized by being treated like a concession stand. It's outrageous that the initial funds have been blown on the high salaries of the organizers.

Nope, this New Yorker won't pay to go in the museum. I bet a lot of New Yorkers won't. It's a disgraceful way to take tourists' money. Outside -- the canopy of trees, the Survivor Tree, the names of those who died on the borders of the pools... these are free and plenty sufficient as a moving memorial.

Hey Mike,

I just read your article on cell service on subways from AM New York. To be honest, its NOT the 'Mr. Type A' personalities that I am worried about with cell phone service on the subways. It's the "I got myself a free cell phone and I'm going to use it anytime I can" personalities I am worried about.

Otherwise I completely agree with you. Its going to be a nightmare.

Hello Mike, just read your column regarding "Mr Type A makes subway cell service a curse". And after reading it, it dawned on me, while my initial feeling was that it will be great to have cell & wifi service in the subways, there was the concern about terrorists - but not only that. My main concern after reading your column was the reality and the serious danger of the "train operator"/"driver" texting and talking while operating the train.

Quinn may call it mudslinging all she wants, it happens to be the truth. Quinn has been an unconscionable political opportunist and bully during her reign as City Council Speaker. I personally know of bills that were almost introduced into City Council only to have the original sponsor suddenly remove their own name from the bill. Why would they do this?
Quinn has wielded great power over the other council members because she has control of discretionary funds. She has the power to deny funding to a council member's district, or even worse, to take away funding that has already been given, and she has done this to council members who have gone against her agenda, or have somehow inspired her wrath. Recently, she had funds taken away from a Queens councilwoman's district because the woman failed to credit Quinn in a news release. Her abuse of council members and other elected officials includes screaming obscenities at them behind closed doors. When confronted with this criticism, Quinn claimed it was a good thing to be tough.

She has also neglected her own district and constituents by allowing St Vincents Hospital to close, and to ultimately be sold to the Rudin family for the development of high-rises. As of February 2011, campaign contributions from the Rudin family to Quinn totaled near $30,000.

Then there's Quinn's pushing through City Council of the extension of term limits, which she had previously vowed never to do.

The reason for the commercial is to educate New York voters about Quinn's record and her character. Presently she is the front runner because of name recognition, and because of her bogus and opportunistic use of the media to promote herself as a candidate of the people__ when she's anything but.

I beg to differ.

Michael Bloomberg doesn't really count as a Republican. He switched over from the Democratic Party when he first ran. His policies are decidedly liberal (outside of this imperious attitude towards the school system.)

Secondly, what if the Democrats are correct? Didn't Bloomberg actually overturn the term limits with his appointed cronies?

People are tired of him, just as they were tired of Guiliani.
